The Declaration of Independence, a classic argument, was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776 to explain

 

why the American colonies wanted to separate from Great Britain. It established America as independent

 

states, and, as a result, it is a revolutionary document with a revolutionary purpose.

 


 

Read The Declaration of Independence on pp. 215?217 of your textbook, Perspectives on Argument. To

 

understand the context and background of this document, use a secondary source to familiarize yourself

 

with the background and context of this document. Based on your understanding of the document, answer

Do you think the document can be organized into parts? How would you categorize or label these
