1.As an employee of a leading Fortune 500 company, you observe behavior on the part of your senior manager that would prove harmful to both stockholders and the public. You discuss it with a friend who argues that if you report it, you will be the one hurt. ?The bosses never get punished? and ?you?ll be the fall guy.? You need your job and can?t afford to lose it. You also know that your senior manager is up for promotion and may take you with him with a promotion for you. Discuss what you are going to do. [MO1.1, 1.2]

 

Honestly, I would take the time to consider all factors before making a decision. I would generate a list of the pros and cons about the situation before telling or not telling. The ethical way is to report the senior manager to the organization regardless of the outcome. The Human Resources department and mangers are constantly reminding employees that if you see something wrong do not be afraid to tattle on a co-worker or manger. Including minor infractions like an employee taking napkins home or an organization?s pens.

 

The first thing that I would do is protect myself. By reporting the situation it demonstrates that I am not participating in those actions. I am sure that I?ll have more opportunities to get promoted. The right thing to report it, instead of being caught up in some sort of scandal that could have been prevented. I could be held liable if I don?t report it. The organization would probably appreciate my actions. Many top leaders would like to know firsthand what is going on in the organization instead of hearing it via media. Snitching can help improve the office?s atmosphere. Some employees tend to be afraid to speak up because they think that they could get fired. Some cons of snitching are that you could be considered as a whiny person, co-workers may dislike you, and actions could backfire. At the end of the day, whether to tell or not to tell the decision should certainly be evaluated before taking the next step. Lastly, senior managers should not be action out of character because they are role models.
